The Nigeria Industrial Revolution Plan (NIRP)

The Nigeria Industrial Revolution Plan (NIRP) is a five-year plan to accelerate the build-up of industrial capacity within Nigeria. The plan aims to increase manufacturing’s contribution to the country's GDP from today’s 4 % to 6 % by 2015, and finally to above 10 % by 2017. The NIRP’s strategy is to encourage and speed up industrialization in sectors where Nigeria has a comparative advantage—such as the agro allied sectors; metals & solid minerals related sectors; oil & gas related industries, as well as construction, light manufacturing and services.

The NIRP is expected to achieve the following results:

  • Job Creation
  • Economic and Revenue Diversification
  • Import Substitution
  • Export Diversification
  • Broadened government tax base” (source: NIRP- Release 1.0, January 2014)
