UNIDO Organises OIML Certification Training

ABUJA 07 December 2018 – Twenty-one persons have been trained on the new International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML) Certification process. The training took place from 04 December to 05 December, 2018, in Abuja. It was organised within the context of the European Union funded National Quality Infrastructure Project in Nigeria (NQIP), implemented by UNIDO.

Beneficiaries of the training were selected from the Weights and Measures Department of Federal Ministry of Industry Trade and Investment and the National Metrology Institute (Standards Organisation of Nigeria). Each participant received a certificate at the end of the two day workshop.

The new OIML certificate system, OIML-CS, is designed to establish a single certification system with improved structures, rules and procedures to certify measuring instruments such as taximeter, electricity meter, blood pressure meter, etc.

With UNIDO’s support, Nigeria has been readmitted into the OIML as a corresponding member. UNIDO also supported the establishment of the National Metrology Institute (NMI) and training of its relevant personnel, including a five days study tour at NPL-UK.
